Cityslides is a project by Drew Harris, Baltimore singer-songwriter who now resides in Philadelphia, PA. This project grew from the great local Baltimore gypsy-folk band, Good Guise. When Good Guise went on hiatus some members started playing Good Guise songs on the streets of Baltimore. The guys quickly started adding their original tunes to the mix and before long added a new name, Cityslides (after the first original song). Fast forward three years, about a hundred shows under their belt, and 15 original songs to their name, and head down to Cape May, NJ, during two gorgeous days in mid-October where the band worked with Mark Gunnery of Odonian Records to put it all on record. This album, though still in the demo stage, was recorded 100% live onto Mark's digital boards. The band logged about 24 hours of recording time in only two days to complete what is being called, "Animus Kingdom." The complete album on vinyl, including digital codes for extra songs, will be available on October 1, 2011.
Anima Kingdom is not your typical singer-songwriter album. It's a very deep dive into the psychological perils of being human. From love, to sweatshops, war to honey bees, the songwriting is thoughtful, and the delivery haunting. The musicians pluck and pull, slide and tap out music that is a dark shade of beautiful. Together the band executes a unique sound that requires close attention to appreciate, and those that allow its taste to settle are in for a rewarding experience. This is not shallow music, it is music by music lovers and for music lovers.
